DHAYANA
This is the 7th step or limb of ashtang yoga. This is a journey of all together asana,(body postures), pranayama (breath control ), pratyahara (control of senses, moving the focus to the inside ) and dharana( concentration ). We can say dhyana is uninterrupted flow of mind towards the object which is chosen for meditation.
"tatra pratyayaikatanata dhyanam"/
Dhyana is involving concentration and meditation on a point of focus with the intention of knowing the truth. To know more about oneself is dhyana. This is the blissfull state of mind.
According to the Yoga Sutra, the purpose of meditation is to interrupt the flactuation of the normal mental activity such as sensory knowledge, memory and imagination. Out of these, memory is the hardest one to quite, as it incessantly feeds us glimpses from the past along with an endless stream of thoughts and feelings.
Like any other limb in yoga, meditation is a systematic process in itself, wchich takes practice and patience. Start with 5-10 minute and gradually increase the time. When one enters in this blissfull state one wants to enter again and in this state.
