If you are suffering from heavy hair fall it may cause alopecia. A partial or total hair loss is called as alopecia. When the involvement is patchy it is called alopecia areata. It may involve the hair margin or the beard area and is possibly of psychogenic origin. In alopecia totalis there is a total loss of hair from the scalp and in alopecia univesalis, from all over the body. Alopecia areata has to be differenciated from tinea capitis and cicatricial alopecia due to scarring.
Diffuse alopecia may accompany hypothyroidism , leprocy and administration of cytotoxic drugs.
